Baby dies after mother tries to avoid swooping magpie in Qld

A baby girl has died in a tragic accident involving a swooping magpie in Brisbane’s south.

Emergency crews were called to Glindemann Park at Holland Park West just after midday on Sunday, following reports a woman had fallen over.

It’s understood the woman was walking through the park with her baby girl in her arms, when she was targeted by a swooping magpie.

Initial inquiries suggest the mother ducked to try and avoid the aggressive bird and tripped over.

The infant was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to hospital in a critical condition, where she sadly died a short time later.

The heartbreaking incident reportedly comes after residents previously wrote to the local council informing them of the swooping magpie.

A report is expected to be prepared for the coroner.
