Baby hospitalised after driver flees M1 car rollover

LATEST @ 1.00 PM | An infant has been hospitalised following a car rollover on the Pacific Motorway this morning, which saw the driver allegedly run from the scene.

The serious single-vehicle crash happened near Exit 45 in Ormeau around 10.30am.

A Queensland Police spokesperson told myGC the male driver of the car allegedly fled the scene following the crash, leaving the infant trapped in the overturned vehicle.

Thankfully the young child managed to escape with just minor injuries and was treated on scene by paramedics before being taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Police said the male suspect was located a short time later on Shawnee Crescent in Pimpama and taken into custody.

He’s since been transported to hospital with minor injuries, where he will also undergo testing.

The crash blocked at least two northbound lanes, causing major delays stretching all the way back to Oxenford.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.
