Baby injured after pram rolls onto Sydney train tracks

A toddler has been injured after a pram rolled off a railway platform onto the tracks in Sydney’s west yesterday.

About 11.30am (Sunday 5 July 2015), police were contacted in relation to a child being injured when a pram fell off a platform at Wentworthville Railway Station.

Officers from Holroyd Local Area Command attended The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and commenced an investigation.

Police were told that just after 10am, a pram containing the 18-month-old girl had rolled away from the family while they paid for their tickets.

Her 62-year-old grandfather immediately jumped onto the tracks and passed the pram back up to his wife and daughter.

To climb back onto the platform, the man had to walk along the tracks to the end, where he narrowly missed being struck by a freight train.

The child suffered swelling to her forehead and abrasions to her knees but was released from hospital yesterday afternoon.

No charges are expected to be laid.
