Baby left with fractured bones, detached retinas after allegedly being bashed by her father

AN eight-week-old baby is in hospital, lucky to be alive after allegedly being assaulted by her father at a house in Sydney.

Police were notified of the case after the newborn was driven to Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick on Friday.

The tiny girl was suffering from horrific injuries, including bleeding on the brain, fractures to her left leg and detached retinas.

Police said the eight-week-old baby is continuing to undergo treatment in hospital, where incredibly she’s reported to be in a stable condition.

Her 26-year-old father was spoken to by detectives before being arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station where he was charged with recklessly inflict grievous bodily harm.

He was also served an Apprehended Domestic Violence Order before being released on strict conditional bail.

The man is due to appear in Waverley Local Court on Thursday, January 31.
