Baby narrowly avoids being shot in drive-by shooting

DETECTIVES are searching for a shooter or shooters who sprayed a house with bullets in Melbourne’s north two weeks ago, narrowly missing a sleeping baby.

Police said several shots were fired into the Coral Court home at Lalor around 4.20am on Sunday 28 August.

Officers arrived to find several bullet holes in the front of the house. Two cars parked in the driveway had also been shot-up.

Police said the bullets appeared to have been fired from a high-powered firearm.

One of the bullets had smashed through the front door of the home and became lodged in a kitchen wall. Police said the projectile narrowly missed a one-year-old child sleeping in an adjoining room.

Fortunately, police said the baby and a 23-year-old woman who were both home at the time were not injured.

A man who police said also lives at the house was away at the time of the shooting. Police said he is believed to have links to an outlaw motorcycle gang.

Anyone with any information that could assist police with their investigation is urged to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
