Queensland police have saved an English backpacker from abduction after she sent panicked texts to her dad in the UK with her location.
Mary Heys, 20, got into a car with a Swedish traveller she’d befriended at a Sunshine Coast hostel, realising she was in trouble after he took off very fast.
When the man refused to let Heys out of the vehicle, she pretended to work Google Maps, instead texting her father with her location, asking him to call police.

Authorities then intercepted the vehicle about 90 kilometres away, at Gympie, before dawn yesterday.
