AT least 11 babies have perished in a fire which ripped through the maternity ward of a hospital in Baghdad on Wednesday morning.
According to the Iraqi Health Ministry, the babies were in the pre-term birth unit of the Yarmouk Hospita when the fire broke out.
They all died of suffocation.

A preliminary investigation indicated the fire was caused by an electrical fault.
According to CNN, 29 women had given birth at the hospital the night before the fire.
They have since been transferred to other hospitals across the area.
