Beaudesert, Springfield among worst affected by storms

A storm map showing the areas of the southeast most affected by weather has been created by meteorologists.

Springfield, Ipswich, Boonah, Beaudesert, Esk and Jimboomba are amongst the worst affected by extreme weather, according to University of Queensland researchers.

Meteorologists used 19 years of data from the Bureau and two years of observations from weather stations to create the map.

The study found the Boonah-Beaudesert region, through the southwest corridor to the Esk area and up to the Sunshine Coast, are more likely to be hit by summer storms.

Brisbane is most likely to be hit by hailstorms when sea breezes sweep through the region, as moisture builds over the city.
