Bennett and Smith both back one ref system
Wayne Bennett has joined Cameron Smith in praising the Rugby World Cup’s one-referee system.
It is being used instead of the NRL’s two-referee system, which was introduced in 2009.
After the Kangaroos win over England on Friday night Cameron Smith said the game ran more smoothly.
“It does make quite a difference with one referee, the game tends to flow a lot more, there are not as many stoppages,” he said.
“I do enjoy one referee.
“I like the continual flow of the game, it makes for a more consistent game of footy, given there’s one person officiating.”
However, Â Wayne Bennett said even though he prefers the one ref system he can’t see the NRL reverting back to it.
