In a big blow to Australian rowing, the nation won’t have any competitors in the men’s and women’s eights at the Rio Olympics.
It is the first time since 1948 that we won’t have a men’s team in the line-up after both sexes failed to qualify at the final rowing regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland.
The Australians needed a top two finish but finished fourth behind the USA, Poland and Italy.

Only men’s single sculler Rhys Grant was able to qualify for Rio, with the games getting underway in August.
