Biggera Waters apartment complex evacuated following car park explosion

UPDATE @ 8.50am: POLICE have confirmed they are treating a fire in an underground car park in Biggera Waters this morning as suspicious.

Around 4.20am, emergency crews were called to an apartment complex on East Quay Drive following reports of an explosion and smoke coming from the basement.

On arrival, crews found four cars well-engulfed in flames in the building’s underground carpark.


Queensland Fire and Emergency Service officers extinguished the fire while police evacuated residents from the six storey building.

No one was injured during the fire.

Police say four cars were destroyed in the blaze and the building sustained extensive damage.

“Preliminary information indicates that the fire may have been deliberately lit using an accelerant,” police said in a statement.

A crime-scene has now been set up while investigators work to determine the cause of the fire.

EARLIER @ 6.30am: FOUR  cars have caught fire in a reported explosion in an underground car park in Biggera Waters this morning.

Emergency crews rushed to an apartment complex on East Quay Drive just after 4.15am.

Residents of the building were evacuated while multiple fire crews worked to extinguish the flames.

A Queensland Fire and Rescue spokesperson confirmed to myGC that the fire was out by 5.00am.

Both police and firies are investigating the cause of the blaze, with a fire investigator being sent out to the scene today.

No one was injured.

Meanwhile, fire crews were called to a small fire at a petrol station on Kingston Road at Woodridge around 4.45am.

It’s understood some boxes caught alight inside the store, however firies managed to have it under control a short time later.
