Bike rider dead after overnight hit and run in northern NSW

Police are calling on members of the public for information about a hit and run in a town near Byron Bay overnight.

Emergency services were called to Wilsons Creek Road, near Mullumbimby, around 1.00am, after a passing motorist spotted a body on the road.

A push-bike was also located near the body.

Despite desperate attempts by paramedics, the man – believed to be in his 20s – was declared deceased at the scene.

He is yet to be formally identified, though a crime scene has been established.

Wilsons Creek road has been closed off in both directions, with motorists urged to avoid the area.

Anyone with information about the incident, or dash cam footage, are being urged to contact police.
