Bikie accused of beating girlfriend in public carpark

A BIKIE has been charged with a string of domestic violence offences after allegedly bashing and strangling his girlfriend in separate attacks on the Gold Coast.

The 35-year-old patched member of the Rebels bikie gang is accused of beating his 25-year-old de-facto partner multiple times over two days on Friday and Sunday, May 3 and 5.

It’s alleged on one occasion, the man – who is the subject of a domestic violence protection order – violently attacked his younger partner in front of horrified onlookers in a public car park at Helensvale.

Police said members of the public who witnessed the assault rushed to the woman’s aid and called triple zero.

Following investigations, officers from the state’s anti-bikie Taskforce Maxima last night arrested the 35-year-old man and searched his Willow Vale home.

The patched bikie member was charged with six offences, including two counts of strangulation in a domestic setting, common assault and three counts of contravention of a domestic violence order.

He was due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.

Acting Detective Inspector Jacquelyn McLeod said Taskforce Maxima was committed to protecting the victims of domestic violence.

“Taskforce Maxima will continue to protect the victims of domestic violence and target OMCG offenders who commit crime in our community,” she said.

“Detectives from State Crime Command continue to engage and work in partnership with South East Queensland Domestic Violence police coordinators, high risk teams and external agencies to ensure an integrated service response for gang related domestic and family violence”.
