Bill Cosby thanks fans following sexual assault mistrial

Veteran US actor Bill Cosby and his wife have praised their legal team after he walked free from court.

The 79-year-old comedian had been on trial in Norristown Pennsylvania, for the alleged sexually assault of a Temple University employee.

Andrea Constand claims The Cosby Show star molested her at his Philadelphia-area home in 2004, after giving her pills that left her unable to say no or fight back.

The jury deliberated for more than 52 hours over six days, but failed to reach a unanimous decision.

The judge declared a mistrial.

Cosby’s wife of 53 years, Camille, released a statement slamming prosecutors for bringing the case to court. While the disgraced actor thanked the fans who rallied for him.

“How do I describe the judge? Overtly arrogant, collaborating with the district attorney,” Mrs Cosby’s statement reads.

“I am grateful to any of the jurors who tenaciously fought to review the evidence; which is the rightful way to make a decision,” the statement continues.

“[Thank you] to our family who loves us… our dear friends and supporters, who never gave up on us, despite it all.”

It was the only criminal case to arise from allegations from more than 60 women that cast Cosby as a serial predator.
