Blanchett and Minchin score Tony nominations

Cate Blanchett could add a Tony award to her trophy cabinet, with the Aussie picking up a nomination overnight for Best Actress.

She was given the nod for her leading role in the play, The Present, but her playwright husband Andrew Upton and co-star Richard Roxburgh were overlooked.

Fellow Australian Tim Minchin is also in the running after receiving an original score nomination for his hit, Groundhog Day the Musical, which has been nominated for seven awards including the coveted best new musical.

The Tony Awards will be held on June 11 at Radio City Musical Hall.
