Blues win Origin One with brutal defence

NEW South Wales have beaten the odds and walked away with one up on Queensland after claiming victory in tonight’s classic Origin opener in Brisbane.

The Maroons threw it all at the Blues in front of a packed Suncorp Stadium, but it wasn’t enough.

It was an epic battle, with the Blues playing right all night to win Game One 12-8 in enemy territory.

Their brutal defence pulled them over the line to score Origin’s 100th match, with Blues fullback Jarryd Hayne at the top of his game, earning Man of the Match.

The date lived up to its hype for the Blues, now having gone on to win every Origin game played on May 28, tonight being the third.

It was also their first Game One win at Suncorp since 2003.

Queensland must now win the next two games to claim their ninth consecutive Origin title.
