Bodies found in ocean after boat flips in waters off Queensland

TWO men have been killed after the boat they were in flipped in waters off the north Queensland coast.

Their bodies were found in the water near Orchid Rocks Reef at Magnetic Island by recreational fisherman around 9.30am on Friday, police said.

It’s understood the men, aged 53 and 66, had departed Townsville around 3am and died shortly after when their 4.5m vessel crashed into rocks and overturned.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the men appeared to have been thrown overboard as the boat flipped and “sustained injuries”.

Water Police are in the process of recovering the vessel which was found overturned in Arthur Bay.

In a statement, police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the accident.

Investigations are continuing.
