Man and woman found dead in unit behind popular Southport cafe

UPDATE 1:30PM | POLICE are appealing for information after a man and a woman were found dead inside a unit at Southport on Friday afternoon.

The bodies were found inside the Johnston Street unit, behind The Roost @ 53 cafe, just after 4.30pm. How the pair died remains unclear.

Detective Senior Sergeant Matt Ward addressed media assembled at the crime scene on Saturday morning and said there was no information at this time to suggest that the deaths were a murder-suicide.


“We have an open mind to any number of possibilities,” Det. Snr Sgt Ward said.

“We are still in the process of identifying the (deceased) persons within the address and in the initial stages of scientific examinations.”


Detective Ward said there was no information indicating that weapons had been used.

Police are appealing for anyone who knows the people who live at the address or associated to the address to come forward.

EARLIER: TWO people have been found dead in a unit at Southport on the Gold Coast.

Police were called to the Johnston Street unit, behind The Roost @ 53 cafe just after 4.30pm on Friday after the bodies of a man and woman were found inside.

Detectives set up a crime scene and spent the night combing the building for clues and gathering evidence.

How the pair died remains unknown. Police said a post-mortem would be carried out in order to determine their cause of death.

There is no further information available at this time.
