Body found in car submerged in creek after highway crash

A MAN has been found dead in a car submerged in a creek near Airlie Beach in north Queensland.

A passing motorist found the Nissan X-trail submerged in Lethebrook Creek south of Proserpine around 7.30am.

Police said it appeared as though the X-trail had been travelling along the Bruce Highway when it left the road and plunged into the creek below.

Exactly what time the crash occurred is yet to be determined.

Sadly, police discovered the body of a man inside the vehicle as it was being winched out of the water.

The 44-year-old man is believed to have been the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
