Body found inside submerged car at NSW boat ramp

A recovery operation is underway at a NSW boat ramp after the body of a man was found inside a submerged vehicle.

Emergency services were called to the Soldier Point boat ramp in Port Stephens around 4.30am on Sunday following reports of a car in the water.

The white hatchback was fully submerged by the time officers arrived.

Inside the car, they found the body of a man who is yet to be formally identified.

A crime scene has been established and a recovery operation involving Police and SES is underway.

The Soldier Point boat ramp will be closed until late this afternoon due to the operation.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
