Body found in Murrumbidgee River

POLICE are investigating the discovery of a body in the Murrumbidgee River in southern NSW.

The body was found floating in a section of the river near Stromlo, west of Canberra on Saturday afternoon.

According to Fairfax Media, the body is believed to have been in the water for some time.

Police were still working to formally identify the body on Sunday morning.

A post-mortem will be carried out to determine the cause of death.

It remains unclear exactly who found the body and raised the alarm, or whether the body is male or female.

Anyone with any information that could assist police with their investigation is urged to come forward.
