Body found on GC embankment identified as missing 12yo girl

UPDATE: A badly decomposed body found on the bank of the Pimpama River on the northern Gold Coast has been identified as 12-year-old Tiahleigh Palmer.

An Investigation Centre has been established at the Logan Police Complex as detectives continue to investigate the matter.

Police are appealing to the public to come forward if they were in the vicinity of the bridge over the Pimpama River on Kerkin Road North within the last seven days.

Detectives are also appealing to anyone who may have seen any people or vehicles that appeared suspicious or out of place, to contact them.

Tiahleigh from Chambers Flat, was last seen at a Marsden educational facility at 8.10am on Friday, October 30.

EARLIER: A badly decomposed body found on the bank of the Pimpama River on the northern Gold Coast is believed to be a teenage girl.

Police have this afternoon confirmed the body is that of a female with dark hair, between the age of 12 and 18 years old.

Detective Inspector Hutchinson says it appears the girl has been dead for up to a week and he is appealing for anyone who was in the water near a bridge on Kerkin Road North in the past seven days to contact them.

Jewellery was also found on the teens body, with Det Hutchinson stating police may release further details later.

Investigations are now being made into missing persons.

The gruesome discovery was made by a fishermen around 5.30pm on Thursday.
