Body modifier arrested over alleged genital mutilation of woman

A man has this morning been arrested over the alleged genital mutilation of a woman in Newcastle.

The 37-year-old body modifier was taken into custody at his home in Terrigal by Strike Force detectives.

It comes after a woman made a formal complaint of mutilation to police.

“Officers allege the 33-year-old woman engaged the body modifier for a procedure at a business in Newcastle West in 2016 but later made a formal complaint to police,” officers said in a statement.

Detectives have since formed a joint strike force to investigate the incident.

The 37-year-old man, who is not a qualified medical practitioner, has been taken to the Gosford Police Station where he is assisting detectives with their inquiries.

Body modification is currently not legislated in New South Wales however members of the so-called Skin Penetration industry are required to follow public health regulations.
