Body of missing man found in NSW dam

The body of a missing man has been found in a dam in Manilla.

Police say around 1pm on Wednesday, two men aged 26 and 57 attended Split Rock Dam at Upper Manilla to test a boat motor they had been working on.

The men launched a 12 foot boat with the outboard motor attached, but it stalled a short distance from the shore.

Neither man was wearing a life vest at the time as they attempted to re start the motor.

During the attempts to re start the motor the pull-cord broke. The older man attempted to locate an oar to row back to shore while the younger man jumped into the water.

The younger man failed to make it to shore.

Police from Oxley Local Area Command were notified and commenced a search. The search was suspended overnight and resumed this morning.

About 1.45pm today divers from the Marine Area Command officers located the body of the missing 26-year-old man in 2.7 metres of water.

The body will undergo a post mortem examination and a report outlining the full circumstances surrounding the man’s death will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
