Body of missing swimmer found at Byron Bay

A SAD end to what should have been a fun day out for friends at a Byron Bay swimming hole.

The body of a Victorian man has been recovered from The Island Quarry swimming hole on Ewingsdale Road.

A search was sparked on Sunday afternoon, when the 20-year-old’s friends lost sight of him while taking a dip in the unused quarry.

Police divers were called in yesterday, with confirmation around 5pm, the body of a man had been recovered.

While the man has not yet been formerly identified, it is believed to be the 20-year-old Victorian man.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
