Body parts wash up in Rio near competition venue

More bad news for organisers of the Rio Olympic Games, with body parts washing up just metres from where the beach volleyball events will take place.

The grisly discovery made on the sand at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro.

A Rio street vendor reportedly told a newspaper that body parts had been found there.

Exact details of the mutilated body are not known.

The Olympics start August 5 and several big names have already announced they will not be heading over to compete, largely due to fears surrounding the Zika virus.

But on Wednesday Helensvale hurdler Sally Pearson announced she would not be competing either because she’d suffered a hamstring injury at training.
