Heavily-tattooed body washes up on beach

POLICE are working hard to try and establish the identity of a heavily-tattooed man whose lifeless body washed up on South Stradbroke Island.

It is understood the dead body was found by a Council worker just north of the Gold Coast Seaway near Currigee at around 7.30 on Sunday morning.

There are early reports suggesting the man may have been in the water for over a week before washing ashore and that he may have had ties to a criminal motorcycle gang.

Police have been left puzzled at the grim discovery. Investigations are underway, with a cause of death yet to be determined.
