Bodyguard of notorious Sydney underworld figure shot in the back

Detectives are canvassing a part of western Sydney, after the bodyguard for Kings Cross nightclub identity John Ibrahim was shot in the back.

Semi “Tongan Sam” Ngata was hit while at the Merrylands home of Ibrahim’s mother, around 10.45pm on Friday.

The 59-year-old was treated at the Price Street home before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition.

His condition has since improved to ‘serious but stable’, and he is expected to have surgery this morning.

A crime scene was set up and investigations are continuing.
