Bones found in drain next to busy motorway

An investigation is underway after skeletal remains were discovered in a drain in Sydney’s north-west.

Police were called to the M2 Motorway, near Castle Howard Road in Beecroft, about 2pm on Tuesday.

Officers from Ryde Police Area Command followed up on reports bones had been found in a drain on the side of the road.

They established a crime scene and carried out an extensive search of the area.

That search is continuing with assistance from Police Divers, Police Rescue, Public Order and Riot Squad and Fire & Rescue NSW.

The remains have been sent for specialist forensic examination to determine if they are human.
