Border Force finds 4kg of cocaine in woman’s suitcase at Sydney Airport

A BRAZILIAN woman is facing the possibility of spending life behind bars in Australia after she was allegedly caught with 4kg of cocaine in her suitcase at Sydney Airport.

The 31-year-old woman flew into Sydney International Airport from Chile on Tuesday morning.

Border Force officers selected the woman for a baggage examination and, after emptying her suitcase, noticed it was still excessively heavy.


Further anomalies were then detected in the bottom of the suitcase during subsequent x-rays.

Officers then deconstructed the bag and allegedly found 4kg of a white powder concealed within the lining.

The substance was subjected to a series of presumptive tests, which returned positive results for cocaine.

The woman was arrested by officers from the Australian Federal Police and has since been charged with importing a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug.

The offence carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
