THE Australian Border Force is mourning the loss of one of their own following an incident on a patrol ship in the Torres Strait.
The ABF on Wednesday confirmed an officer died on board an ABF Cutter on Tuesday night.
In a statement on Wednesday, ABF Commissioner Michael Outram said it was working with Queensland Police and Comcare to investigate the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death.

“It is with deep regret that the Australian Border Force confirms the death of an officer on board an ABF Cutter in the Torres Strait overnight,” Commissioner Outram said on Wednesday.
“I have offered my deepest condolences to the officer’s family … my immediate concern is for the welfare of (them) and of the crew of the vessel.
“Ongoing welfare support is being provided to them and I have ensured that all ABF officers are offered support at this time.”
It is not known how the officer died.
“To ensure we respect the privacy of the officer’s family, the ABF will not be releasing any further information regarding the officer’s personal or service details,” Commissioner Outram said.
The incident is now the subject of a coronial investigation.
