Boy, 13, charged with ‘deliberately lighting’ ferocious bushfire

A 13-year-old boy has been charged with deliberately lighting a massive bushfire in NSW.

The blaze broke out at Pioneer Park in Cootamundra shortly after 8.30pm on Tuesday.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene, however struggled to get the upperhand on the fire which spread across four hectares of bushland.

It was finally contained overnight before it was properly extinguished on Wednesday morning.

Police established a crime scene and following investigations into the suspicious blaze, detectives arrested a 13-year-old boy yesterday.

He was charged with intentionally cause fire and granted conditional bail to appear before a children’s court on 4 November.

Police say inquiries are continuing.
