Boy, 15, charged with murder after man dies following mass brawl in SA

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of a South Australian father, who died following a mass brawl at Mount Gambier at the weekend.

The 32-year-old man died in hospital overnight, while another man, aged 26, remains fighting for life.

The pair were airlifted to the Flinders Medical Centre with serious head injuries on Saturday after a fight erupted between a large group of people.

“At 9pm on Saturday 13 May three men were walking along Commercial Street East when they became involved in a verbal argument with a large group of people on the opposite side of the road,” police said in a statement.

“The three men crossed the road and approached the group where they were soon set upon by several males and assaulted.

“One man was knocked unconscious, a second man punched several times to the head and the third man was injured trying to break up the fight.”

The group involved in the assault left the area before patrols and paramedics arrived.

Following investigations, a 15-year-old boy from Mt Gambier was arrested last night and charged with murder. He is expected to appear in the Mt Gambier Youth Court today.

Investigations are ongoing.
