Boy, 16, charged over violent cab-jacking

A TAXI driver has been bashed and kicked out of his cab, allegedly by a 16-year-old boy, in Townsville.

It happened as the 30-year-old cabbie was driving the teen through Mount Louisa around 1am on Saturday.

The boy allegedly assaulted the driver, causing him to lose control of the cab and crash into a fence on Kathleen Court.

Police said the teen allegedly threatened the driver and demanded his taxi and belongings.

The driver got out of the vehicle on Christian Court and the boy drove away in the taxi, police said.

Police were called and found the boy and the taxi in Plumtree Lane a short time later.

The teen was arrested and has since been charged with armed robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and unlicensed driving.
