A four-year-old boy has tragically died after being hit by a garbage truck in Tasmania.
The youngster was riding his bicycle along a suburban street in Newnham, Launceston, around 12.15pm on Wednesday when he was struck by the vehicle.
Despite desperate attempts by emergency crews, the child sadly could not be revived and died at the scene.

The local street has since been closed to motorists as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.
“We’re unclear as to exactly how these tragic circumstances happened, but the four-year-old boy has collided with or been collected by the front of the rubbish truck, and has died at the scene,” Inspector Ruth Orr told reporters.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
