Boy, 5, airlifted to hospital after bike strike near Wollongong

A FIVE-year-old boy has been airlifted to hospital after he was hit by a car while riding a bike near Wollongong.

The child was struck by a Nissan Patrol on Siltstone Avenue in Horsley just after 3pm on Saturday.

Police said the boy was riding his bike along a footpath with other children when he rode onto the road and into the path of an oncoming car.


The five-year-old was treated by paramedics at the scene before being airlifted to the Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick.

The driver of the car, a man aged in his 30s, was uninjured. He was taken to Shellharbour Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command attended and a crime scene was established. Inquiries into the incident are continuing.
