Boy fights for life after falling from bike while hanging onto moving car

A 17-YEAR-OLD boy is in a critical condition, fighting for his life in hospital after falling off a pushbike while holding on to a moving car being driven by his mate.

It happened in the beachside suburb of Palm Cove in Cairns just after 10pm last night, police said.

It’s understood the teenage boy was riding his pushbike beside a Toyota Aurion sedan while holding onto the vehicle as it travelled along Deep Acres Drive.

Police said the teen then fell from his bike and landed heavily on the road as the vehicle, which was being driven by his 18-year-old mate, approached Argentea Boulevard.

The 17-year-old was treated by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to Cairns Hospital where he remained this morning in a critical condition with life-threatening head injuries.

The Forensic Crash Unit is working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
