Boy, 16, fighting for life after being run over at Newcastle intersection

A 16-year-old boy is today fighting for his life in hospital after being run over by a car while crossing a road in Newcastle overnight.

Police said the teen was walking across the intersection of Griffith Road and Acacia Avenue in Lambton when he was struck at around 1:30am.

He suffered life-threatening head injuries and was rushed to John Hunter Hospital where he remains this afternoon in a critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle, who stopped and rendered assistance, was also taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.

Officers from Newcastle City will continue their investigations and would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the crash.
