Boy was allegedly sexually abused by youth worker for four years

A FORMER youth worker has been charged over the alleged ongoing sexual abuse of a young boy in country NSW.

Jason Robert Hedditch, 27, was arrested by detectives from the state’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad in Leeton, in the state’s Riverina region, on Thursday.

He is accused of indecently assaulting a young boy, now aged 10, multiple times over a four year period.

Police allege the abuse occurred between 2015 and 2018 when the boy was aged between six and nine.

Hedditch, who police say is known to the child’s family, was allegedly employed as youth worker at the time.

He was taken to Griffith Police Station and charged with three counts of aggravated indecent assault on a child.

The 27-year-old appeared in Griffith Local Court on Friday where he was released on $5000 bail.

He will need to report daily to police and has been ordered to stay away from children.

He is expected back before the same court again on May 15.
