Brazen elderly man charged over string of house break-ins

AN elderly man has been charged after allegedly breaking into several homes in Sydney’s south.

About 12.30pm yesterday, a witness called police after noticing a man breaking into a home on Carrisbrook Avenue.

The man allegedly stole jewellery from the house before breaking into another nearby property where the home owner also called police.

The 77-year-old, who was found in possession of housebreaking implements, jewellery and a sum of cash, was arrested by detectives on Kingsland Road North.

He was taken to St George Police Station where he was charged with multiple offences in relation to several other alleged break-ins in Carlton and Bexley North in May this year.

He is due to appear at Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday 8 August.
