3 adults, 4 children shot dead in suspected murder-suicide

UPDATE at 1:15 PM | FOUR children and three adults have been found shot dead following what is believed to have been a murder-suicide at a house south of Perth in Western Australia.

Police made the horrific discovery after being called to the rural property at Osmington, around 20km north east of Margaret River about 5.15am local time on Friday.

WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said the bodies of two adults were found outside the home, while a third adult and four children were discovered dead inside.

Briefing media at a press conference a short time ago, Commissioner Dawson said the bodies had “gunshot wounds” and confirmed two firearms were found at the scene.

“Police are currently responding to what I can only describe as an horrific incident in Osmington, 20km north-east of Margaret River,” he said.

“It is early in this investigation. Based on what we do know, this is clearly a tragedy.”

Commissioner Dawson said he was unable to release further detail or specify the ages of the victims as officers were still trying to track down other family members, friends and next of kin.

“I’m not in a position to release any further details about the identities of the deceased,” he said.

“This devastating tragedy will no doubt have a lasting impact on the families concerned, the whole community and, in particular, the local communities in our south-west.”

Homicide Detectives and the Forensic Crime Scene Unit are making their way to the scene from Perth.

Commissioner Dawson said officers were not looking for any suspects.
