BREAKING: At least 15 dead in US school shooting

At least 15 people have been killed in a school shooting in the US state of Texas.

Authorities say the 18-year-old gunman entered an elementary school in Ulvade, about 140kms west of San Antonio.

“It’s believed that he abandoned his vehicle and entered into the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde with a handgun and he may have also had a rifle, but that is not yet confirmed according to my most recent report,” Texas Governor Greg Abbott said.

Several others have reportedly been wounded.

The shooter has been identified by authorities as Salvador Romas, an 18-year-old local resident.

Uvalde Chief of Police Pete Arrondo says most of the victims were young children.

“This school has children that are in second, third and fourth grade. I can confirm right now that we have several injuries, adults and students, and we do have some deaths.

“The suspect is deceased. At this point, DPS is assisting with the investigation and at this point, the investigation is leading to tell us that the suspect did act alone during this heinous crime.”
