BREAKING: Australia to welcome back the world in two weeks

After being closed to the world for almost two years, Australia will reopen its international border in two weeks.

Following a meeting of the National Security Committee of Cabinet on Monday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced that double-vaccinated international visitors can return to Australia from February 21.

“The condition is you must be double vaccinated to come to Australia. That’s the rule. Everyone is expected to abide by it and it’s very important that people understand that requirement if they’re seeking to come to Australia,” The Prime Minister said.

“But if you’re double vaccinated, we look forward to welcoming you back to Australia and I know the tourism industry will be looking forward to that.

“You will need to provide that proof of vaccination. Your visa is one thing but your entry into Australia requires you also to be double vaccinated and I think events earlier in the year should have sent a very clear message to everyone around the world that is the requirement to enter into Australia.”

Unvaccinated overseas arrivals will have to apply for an exemption and provide medical evidence as to why they can’t be vaccinated.

More to come.
