Bank services coming back online after major outage

UPDATE @ 4.30PM |  Services at some of Australia’s biggest banks are being restored after a major outage left customers unable to access accounts.

Customers began reporting issues with services just after 3pm on Thursday.

Most were having trouble accessing online and mobile banking while some reported issues with EFTPOS and ATM machines.


The outage affected Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, ANZ and St George banks along with a number of small institutions.

Virgin Australia was also impacted with its website going offline.

It’s understood the issue was related to a service provider.

EARLIER @ 3.30PM | Some of Australia’s biggest banks have been hit by outages with customers unable to access a number of services.

Customers of Commonwealth Bank, ANZ, Westpac, and St George are among those reporting they are unable to login to online and mobile banking.

Some Commonwealth users have also reported on social media that EFTPOS and ATMs are also being impacted.

Commonwealth Bank has confirmed there is an issue and it is urgently investigating.

ANZ has also confirmed on social media that it is experiencing technical issues but could not provide a timeframe for when it might be fixed.

The Virgin Australia website is also down.
