BREAKING: Four killed after plane crashes into ocean in Qld

Police have confirmed four people have tragically died after a light plane crashed into the sea near Redcliffe.

Emergency crews were alerted to the accident in waters off the coast of Redcliffe shortly after 9am on Sunday.

“A multi-agency operation is underway with Queensland Water Police officers and divers along with the Forensic Crash Unit assisting other agencies, including the Australian Transport Safety Bureau, as investigations continue,” police said in a statement.

It’s understood the plane experienced engine trouble shortly after take-off.

Those on board are believed to be from Brisbane and Canberra, with police to provide further details about the accident at a media conference this afternoon.

There is no further information available at this stage.

“The families are asking media to respect their privacy during this difficult time,” Queensland Police said.
