A MAN has been arrested over alleged plans to conduct a terror attack in Melbourne on New Years Eve.
The 20-year-old man was taken into custody at Werribee by members of the Victoria Police Special Operations Group just before 3.00pm on Monday.
Police also executed warrants at two homes in Werribee and Meadow Heights, as well as a commercial property in Footscray.

“It will be alleged the man arrested was involved in undertaking preparations for planning a terrorist act in Melbourne on New Year’s Eve this year,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
He is currently being interviewed in relation to the offences of Acts in Preparation to Commit a Terrorist Attack and Collecting Documents to Facilitate a Terrorist Act.
Police say the the operation is ongoing, however “the main lines of enquiry have been completed and at this time police do not anticipate further arrests.”
Victoria Police and the Australian Federal Police have stressed that the threat has been contained and there is no on-going risk to the community.
