Man arrested by counter-terror police
A MAN has been arrested by armed counter-terror police during an operation in North Melbourne.
The suspect was detained outside St Mary’s church on Queensbury Street on Friday afternoon.
While the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet known, Victoria Police say there is no current or impending threat to the community.
Photos and video footage from the scene shows a man in a white forensic suit being led away from the scene by police with his hands bound with cable ties.
The Joint Counter Terrorism Team has confirmed it is conducting “operational activity” in the area.
It is not yet clear what triggered the operation.
