BREAKING: Man dies after shark attack on NSW mid north coast

LATEST @ 12.50 PM | A MAN who was attacked by a shark on the NSW Mid North Coast this morning has died.

The man, aged in his 50s, was bitten on the upper right thigh while surfing at Tuncurry Beach around 11.20am.

He was pulled from the water and treated at the scene by paramedics, however, sadly he could not be saved.

“Despite the best efforts of paramedics and bystanders at the scene the man could not be resuscitated,” NSW Ambulance said.

Tuncurry Beach and Forster Main Beach are currently closed.

Police said they will be working with the Department of Primary Industries to identify the species responsible.

EARLIER @ 12.15 PM | A man is in a serious condition after being attacked by a shark on the NSW Mid North Coast.

Emergency crews were called to Tuncurry Beach just before 11.30am on Tuesday following reports of the attack.

Upon arrival, they found a man aged in his 50s suffering a bite wound to his thigh.

According to reporters on scene, the man is in a serious condition.

A rescue helicopter has been tasked to the beach, with the man expected to be flown to hospital shortly.
