14 people assessed after ‘fumes’ detected

UPDATE at 1:30 PM | ONE person has been taken to hospital and 13 others have been assessed by paramedics following a suspected gas leak at Elanora.

Students at Elanora State High School were evacuated onto the school’s oval after fumes were detected about midday.

Multiple ambulances were dispatched to the school and assessed more than a dozen people for minor symptoms.

In an update at 1:30pm, Queensland Ambulance confirmed paramedics had assessed a total of 14 patients.

One of them has been transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital as a precautionary measure.

The patient’s genders and ages are not known.

Firefighters are still in the area, attempting to identify where the source of the fumes.

It’s understood the all clear has since been given at the school.

UPDATE at 1:00 PM | SEVEN people have been assessed by paramedics following a suspected gas leak at Elanora, on the southern Gold Coast.

Paramedics were called to reports of ‘fumes’ detected at Elanora State High School about midday.

Multiple ambulances were dispatched to the school where paramedics initially assessed four people.

In an update at 1pm, the Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed they had assessed seven patients.

“All patients displayed minor symptoms,” an ambulance spokesperson said.

The patients’ genders and ages are not known.

Multiple fire crews are in the area, attempting to identify the source of the gas leak.

UPDATE at 12:40 PM | PARAMEDICS are assessing four people following a suspected gas leak at Elanora.

Speaking to myGC, a Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said they were called to reports of ‘fumes’ on Nineteenth Avenue about 12.02pm.

There are reports three ambulances have attended Elanora State High School, and students have been moved onto the school oval.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services confirmed they were called to reports of a suspected gas leak at a commercial premises in Elanora.

They have three trucks in the area, trying to pinpoint the source of the fumes.

No further information was available at the time of writing.
