UPDATE @ 4.55pm: POLICE have declared an emergency situation due to a dangerous fire currently burning at a factory in Virginia, in Brisbane’s north.
The blaze broke out at a business on Pritchard Road just after 3.30pm, forcing the evacuation of nearby shops and a petrol station.
A PSPA (Public Safety Preservation Act) was declared at 4.10pm, with police establishing an exclusion zone bordering Sandgate Road, Pritchard Road and Newton Street and a thoroughfare between Newton Street and Sandgate Road.
“The fire continues to burn and due to the toxic nature of the smoke residents in the area are being asked to remain in doors and close windows,” police said in a statement.
